Lynn hit back after a sloppy start to stroll through their opening pre-season test at Recreation Way.

The unmarked Dale Werthmann fired last season's Ridgeons Premier Division runners-up ahead inside six minutes.

Linnets' debutant Joe Francis rifled a low 20-yard free kick into the bottom corner past Ben Nower to draw Keith Webb's side level.

Michael Frew cashed in on defensive indecision to nudge Lynn ahead before fellow new boy John Turner marked his half time arrival with a coolly taken third.

Webb made seven changes at the break to a strong looking starting line up that also featured former Boston United left back Ben Chapman.

“I wanted us to try and control the game, keep the ball and then give everyone a run out,” said Webb. “It was ideal. We were a little bit rusty early doors and it was disappointing to give away a goal from a set piece. Once we scored that settled us down. Joe did okay and JT looked sharp when he came on and took his goal well.

“All the lads worked hard. I was pleased with the resilience. We had to stick at it because you're always on a hiding to nothing against lower league teams. It'll be the same for us when we play Norwich.”

The Linnets' chief is keen to blood a couple of triallists for the Canaries' midweek visit. Webb confirmed Lynn were in talks with a member of Notts Forest's League One squad last season.

“There is a player, a name that has been mentioned to us, with Forest connections,” he said. “If we can't do it for the Norwich game it will the next one. We know where we need to strengthen. I want a midfielder and an another centre half to give us that bit of extra cover.

“We don't need to panic. Now the games are starting up, we'll have an opportunity. I've been encouraged by what I've seen so far. If we get everyone here fit and on the pitch I'll be happy. If I can bring in another couple, I'll be more than happy.”

Second half arrivals Mark Heath-Preston (leg) and Luke Fell (ankle) limped out of the action with minor knocks. Greg Crane (ankle) and Jack Defty (thigh) were not involved. Midfielder Shaun Carey played a full part in the pre-match warm up as he continued his comeback from last season's double leg break injury.

“I'm hoping Craney will be back this week,” said Webb. “Jack has a thigh problem so we are taking things slowly, slowly. The most important thing is that we get him ready for the league. Felly and Mark had only come on, but that's what tends to happen in pre-season games.”
