King's Lynn boss Keith Webb is tracking former Premier League midfielder Kevin Horlock.

Webb confirmed the 35-year ex-Man City and West Ham playmaker is poised to feature in Lynn's upcoming pre-season campaign.

The free agent - also scheduled to appear for Southern League outfit Bury Town against old club Ipswich Town tomorrow - could be involved when Lynn host Cambridge United on Saturday.

“It's his choice who he plays for at this stage,” said Webb. “If he wants to play against Ipswich that is up to him but we will ideally look to run the rule over him Saturday and next Tuesday. He missed a lot of last season through injury so I want to see him in a game situation and see how his fitness levels stand up.”

The ex-Northern Ireland international made more than 470 Football League appearances in a 16 year career - notably helping Man City clinch two promotions from League One to the Premiership.

Norwich boss Glenn Roeder re-signed Horlock for his first club West Ham in 2003 before the midfielder went on to play for Ipswich, Doncaster and Mansfield. Webb also confirmed he had held talks with ex-Lincoln City striker Ollie Ryan after the 22-year-old agreed to join demoted league rivals Boston United.

“I did have a chat with the lad when he came to train with us,” said Webb. “But he basically priced himself out of a move. I wasn't able to make him the promises he wanted.”

Former Linnets' chief Tommy Taylor admitted he was delighted to capture Ryan who made 38 league appearances for the Imps before his release.

“There were three clubs wanting him and I know King's Lynn was interested,” said Taylor. “I told him to ring me after he had considered what King's Lynn had to say and I am delighted that he has signed for us. Players still want to come here because Boston is a big club.”

Webb admitted his squad rebuilding is almost complete with the signing of ex-Cambridge United defender Mark Peters.

Club officials completed a deal for the 35-year-old defender following his exit from last season's losing Blue Square Premier play- off finalists.

Peters made 35 league appearances in United's march to a Wembley final defeat against Exeter in May but was released as part of cost cutting measures.

“It was a little bit protracted but we got there in the end and I'm delighted,” said Webb. “He's a warrior with great leadership qualities and that will be important. He is one of those type of players who doesn't need to have the armband to have a big say. He played a lot of games last season at Cambridge United and he kept Gavin Hoyte out of the side there which tells you everything.

“I needed to make sure we had that solid look defensively and I'm more than happy where we are at now. I think we might get maybe one more in further forward,” the Linnets boss added.

Market Harborough-based Peters was a key member of the Rushden & Diamonds' squad that clinched promotion to the Football League in 2001 and League One two years later. The experienced defender is Webb's fourth close season capture following the earlier summer arrivals of defender Simon Weaver and midfielder David Bridgwater. Star striker Julian Joachim was unveiled last week and the quartet are expected to feature in Lynn's opening pre-season game at Corby on Thursday.
