Wilson - Norwich City have 'one foot in the door'

Swindon boss Danny Wilson believes Norwich City have "one foot in the door" of the Championship - but still feels his side can pull off a crucial victory over the League One leaders tomorrow.

Wilson's team return to the County Ground on the back of successive 1-0 away wins at Brighton and Southampton, but keen to atone for their last home result, a shock 4-0 defeat by Bristol Rovers.

They are in fourth place, five points adrift of Leeds in second, as they take on a City side with 13 wins in the last 15 games.

It is the third meeting between the two clubs this season, the Canaries winning 1-0 in the league match at Carrow Road in October before an away victory on penalties in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, following a goalless draw.

Said Wilson: “We will have to put in a similar type of performance to what we put in at Southampton.

“They have quality players and if we're not up to the task that is put in front of us then we will have a problem like we would against any team.

“The lads have seen the position that Norwich are in, they have seen their quality having played them twice already, and will be well aware of what they are capable of.

“If we stand off and admire them then they are as good as any team in this league. But if we get into them then you never know, we might just have a chance of picking something up."

Wilson said City's consistency had given them the edge over their promotion rivals.

“Norwich have got one foot in the door now. Another three or four wins and they will have virtually guaranteed that," he said.

“They've got a quality squad and if you analyse the players and the amount of money it took to put them together, that's why they are up there.

“You can go through all the teams up there and say that with the squad they've got they deserve to be up there.

“Norwich are no different, but they have had the consistency that every manager wants.

“The squad is there but a lot of other teams haven't been as consistent, and that is the key.

“As an individual and as a group, anybody at this level would like their squad and would expect to be successful with it."

Wilson confirmed yesterday he was hopeful of clinching a loan signing later today, with West Ham striker Frank Nouble understood to be the mystery man after travelling to Swindon to complete the move yesterday afternoon.

Midfielder Simon Ferry, on loan from Celtic, will be suspended for the game after his sending-off at Southampton on Tuesday.

Defender Scott Cuthbert is ruled out after suffering a knee ligament injury against the Saints.
