Winning seven games on the spin has opened up a chance to equal a club record for Norwich City’s promotion chasers this weekend.

Daniel Farke’s team matched the Canaries’ second-tier title winning teams of 2004 and 1986 when winning a seventh consecutive league game, thanks to Saturday’s hard fought 1-0 win at Middlesbrough.

However, City’s League One champions of 2010 enjoyed an eight-match winning streak as they bounced back to the Championship at the first attempt under Paul Lambert.

That was the first time a Norwich team had ever managed to win eight games on the spin in all competitions, kicking off with a 3-0 home win over Huddersfield on December 19, 2009, and finishing with a 2-1 success over Hartlepool at Carrow Road on January 30, 2010.

It was a superb run which teed up promotion, scoring 19 goals, conceding just three and setting a club record in the process – featuring the unforgettable 5-0 victory in the mud at Colchester United as Lambert returned to his former club.

Ken Brown’s 1986 title winners managed the remarkable feat of 10 consecutive league triumphs, however that streak was interrupted by a 5-0 defeat at Liverpool in the FA Cup third round – who had lost in the European Cup final the previous season and were on their way to a league and FA Cup double.

Starting on November 23, 1985, with a 3-2 home win over Grimsby, the streak came to an end following a 2-1 success at Crystal Palace on January 25, 1986 – including the New Year’s Day 1-0 win at Fulham, which is still the last time City won at Craven Cottage, 33 years later.

QUIZ: Can you name the City players who last won seven straight league games?

It’s of course a good omen for the Canaries class of 2019 that they’ve managed to join such esteemed yellow and green company, as they aim to seal promotion during the final seven games of this season.

Farke’s side have managed 17 goals during that run, conceding just six times, and winning nine out of their last 10 has convinced bookmakers they are going up – with Sky Bet offering 1/66 for promotion and 1/5 for the title.

They’ve actually only lost one of their last 14 league games with wins at Leeds, Millwall and Boro, as well as home successes over Ipswich, Bristol City and Swansea, making it a cracking 2019 so far for the Canaries.
