Yanic Wildschut’s patience is being rewarded – and he can also hear the sound of Norwich City clicking.
The Dutch winger’s first start since the home defeat to Sunderland proved a match-winning one at Sheffield United, for a January signing that has struggled to make an impact since arriving from Wigan.
However, Wildschut’s form this term was already promising before his goal left Bramall Lane tasting defeat for the first time this season.
“It’s been hard but the only thing you can do is work hard and keep going,” said Wildschut. “I believe in myself and I know when the chance comes again, you have to show it.
“As they say, coming in January is hard. We were struggling a bit but for me personally, I just didn’t get to my own performance level that I know I can. And then at the end, Josh Murphy was doing really well.
“I knew with the new manager coming in, everyone starts at zero and I came back with that mind set. I think in pre-season I’ve shown I’m willing to work and willing to adapt, and learn a new style of play.
“I started well and then I had a couple of games where I didn’t play, but hopefully this is the beginning of a longer run of games.
“I have to say last season, even though a lot was said about the team and we didn’t do well and under-achieved, I’ve always felt at home. The team-mates were always getting along, and that goes for the people at the club from the kit man to the kitchen people.”
City’s third successive clean sheet and first away from home means seven points from a possible nine is a marked improvement for Daniel Farke’s Canaries – and Wildschut believes things are coming together for a squad that undergone so much summer change.
“From the first week, there has been a great atmosphere in the group,” he added. “I think the manager has said that a couple of times as well, and even the new and other players.
“We’ve clicked and connected and I think now, when you get that winning feeling and you see what you can do, everyone is working for each other and we’ve just said to each other that even if you make a mistake, help your team-mate out. I think we can go a long way from that.
“It’s a really nice, family club and I think everyone who comes here – even the new guys from Germany – say the same thing. I think it’s good we have a togetherness and from there, hopefully we can achieve good things.”
