Yarmouth area focus

BOHEMIANS GIRLS U10, playing their second-ever league game at home to Scole, were ahead after five minutes with a fine shot from Lauren. The rest of the half belonged to Bohs with Leah, Bruna both going close before Daisy with a fine solo effort saw her shot hit the post. Alice and Lauren were running the midfield, Megan was superb in defence with Tati and Georgina worked hard up front. Second half saw Bohs introduce Shannon and Ria who both have lots of enthusiasm and are coming to terms like all the girls are with positional play. Against the run of play Scole equalised and as the game reached its conclusion Bohs pressed hard for the winner and Bruna forced the Scole keeper into two excellent saves. A game played in a great spirit which was well refereed by Charlotte, and the girls can count themselves unfortunate they did not win. PoM: Bruna and Lauren. BOHEMIANS GIRLS U15 at home to Shrublands were up against one of the fairest and most sporting teams in the league. Chelsea and Chloe forced Kayleigh into making three tremendous saves in the first five minutes. Bohs laid siege to the Shrubs' goal and finally got the breakthrough when Chelsea lashed home a rasping shot. Next goal was superb with Neneh, who had a really good game, crossing in for Soph to volley home. Megan added a third just before half-time. Second half saw the move of the match as quick interchanges and good movement saw Chloe score a richly deserved goal. Megan added three more, a girl in irresistible form at present, before Charlotte scored the final goal. Hollie showed what an improved keeper she has become and her distribution is excellent. Paige, Kirsty, Holly and Marcie all undertook defensive duties admirably and the girls showed the team is in really good form. PoM: Megan and Chloe. GORLESTON RANGERS U10B played away at a windswept, cold Kirkley & Pakefield on Sunday. K&P settled the best. Rangers with Ben up front this week could not get a grip on the midfield as Aaron and Sam struggled to gain control. Henry, however, worked well and battled for every ball to try and give Ben the service he needed. Lewis had another assured game in defence with very little getting past him. He was aided by Luis who put in some good tackles to keep K&P from shooting at Shaun who had a quiet game in goal as both teams could not find that killer shot. With conditions deteriorating in the second half, Rangers upped their game with a better team performance but still could not convert chances into goals which finally got punished as K&P scored twice past James PR to take the win and points. BOHEMIANS U11 GIRLS took on Mulbarton away. A delayed kick-off saw the Bohs dominating play from the start. The Bohs ran rings around the big Mulbarton defenders. Demi hit the woodwork four times, Ella, Lauren and Olivia had chances but failed to convert them. Millie and Antonia combined well, Millie shooting wide on several occasions. The Mulbarton goalkeeper was the best Bohs had met this season. Rhianna came on to add bite to the midfield, stopping the Mulbarton forward line in its tracks. An uncharacteristic defensive slip saw a fast-improving Emily, in goal, beaten with a hard shot. Jordan and Antonia were solid throughout. Lauren was like lightning on the wing showing tremendous potential. This was a brilliant team performance which went unrewarded as the Bohs went down 1-0. Player-of-the-match: Lauren.

BOHEMIANS GIRLS U12 played at home to a very hard-working team Red Rose. Bohs scored first against the run of play but Red Rose hit back with two goals. Bohs were struggling in the first half, but got a goal back before half-time to make it 2-2. In the second half Bohs came back onto the pitch with a lot more confidence and played as they have been so far this season, working well together as a team. With players put into different positions with no sub, they had to work for their win. Megan scored her first two goals for the season, Nicole also scoring her first too. The score at the end was an 8-2 win, a great game girls well done and still unbeaten. Get well Zoe.

SHRUBLANDS U13 GIRLS played Bungay Girls. With both teams giving it their all there was some good football played. This game was played in a fantastic spirit. With Shrubs not having any subs, Jess battled on and played full game. Beth was solid as ever until the cold set in but she did not let her team-mates down. The rest of the girls need a pat on back too: Paige, Kayleigh, Nicky, Abbie, Courtney Charlton and Amber Merrick. With conditions finally getting better of both teams and score 9-3 the game was cut short with permission of both managers and the ref's concern. Thanks to all parents who helped with putting up and taking the goals and Andy who, if available, always helps to run the line. This is very much appreciated from all at Shrubs U13/14 Girls. Next game is at home to Halesworth Girls who need one point to ensure they are league champions for U13. This will be the fourth year running.

SHRUBLANDS U13 GIRLS are looking for new players for the 2011/12 season, if interested contact Steve on 01493-661548. Shrubs are sorry to see one of the girls has decided to call it a day and good luck to her in what she chooses to do in future. Training is on Monday at Yo Soccer from 7-8pm. BLUNDESTON MAGPIES U12 played Loddon Grasshoppers U12, but with half of the Magpies' jet-set team only arriving back in the UK on Saturday from such far-flung places as Austria, Ireland and Dubai it was going to be interesting to see what sort of performance the boys would give. The answer was emphatically a superb display. In pretty awful conditions the Magpies dominated the first half. George got things going with a delightful long-range lob after four minutes and quality goals just kept coming.

Precise passing football produced goals from eight different scorers. At the start of the second half with the score at 6-1 the Magpies looked comfortable. But then the already bad weather took a turn for the worst and this combined with the effects of jet lag and long-haul coach travel saw the Magpies' high standards drop as Loddon battled back. However, a core of the Magpies' team stayed determined and full of running and this pulled the rest of the team along. Stints, in particular, was excellent in midfield setting up chance after chance for his team mates. Freddie and Ally ran hard to alternately close down Loddon and then break into space.

Although Magpies finished with only 10 players, this including a frozen, barely mobile but still determined Patch, they managed to run in a further six goals without reply. Man-of-the-match: Stints. Goals: Ally (2), Cam (2), George (2), Foxy (2), Freddie, Gibbsy, Stints and an own goal.

BLUNDESTON MAGPIES U12: Seven players have shown great loyalty and commitment to their club. Six of the boys, A Mathers, M Stinton, G Gibbs, H Brown and S Riley and D Applegate have made more than 50 league appearances. P Johnson has been involved with the Magpies since he was seven and has completed over 75 competitive league games. The boys were presented to the crowd before kick-off at the recent Lowestoft Town v Ware fixture and were presented with long-service trophies by Lowestoft star Jamie Godbold. Jamie said: “It is a pleasure to present these awards. I know a few of these lads through my coaching activities and it's great to see how much they enjoy their football.” Blundeston Magpies club secretary M Mathers thanked all at Lowestoft Town for providing such a memorable occasion for the young players.

CAISTER U9B, playing on a freezing cold morning in heavy rain, earned credit with Burnt Hill for producing a game worthy of the top two teams in Division Two. Caister played the better football in a close first half and good passing and link-up play between Will, Harry and Alfie led to several close attempts on goal. Alex Q was having a solid game at centre-half, Richie was covering every inch of grass and Reece pulled off a memorable save to keep Burnt Hill out. The introduction of Daniel and Harley continued to force the pressure but at half-time the game was locked at 0-0. Burnt Hill came more into the game second on. But for Harry making a penalty save they would have taken the lead. Minutes later a deflected shot through a crowded area put the visitors one up. As the conditions took their toll on tired legs Burnt Hill scored a second, and despite giving their all Caister were unable to pull the game back, leaving the final score Caister U9 B 0, Burnt Hill 95 2. Caister's unbeaten record was gone but their effort in trying to maintain that record was outstanding. Man-of-the-match: Harry (great passing and a penalty save).

COBHOLM BOYS U12 entertained top-of-the-table Waveney D. Cobholm looked positive playing at times some nice one-touch football. In the first 10 to 15 minutes Cobholm were the better team with most players working hard. Cobholm put the Waveney goalkeeper under pressure with shots which he saved. Several times Waveney broke and put Cobholm's goalie under pressure, and he pulled off some great saves. As the weather worsened Cobholm players started to weaken which led to Waveney getting four goals. The first 15 minutes just goes to show they are capable of so much more. The weather deteriorated and at half-time the match was abandoned. Score at half-time 4-0 to Waveney. Training 10am sharp Saturday. GORLESTON RANGERS U10D played Waveney C and started well, putting pressure on Waveney. Matty made some good runs up top. The midfield was solid with Josh S on the left, Dan centre and Callum right, all three passing well and creating many chances. Jack F and Pedro worked hard to get in some important tackles. Josh B came on as striker and linked well with the midfield with the first half played mainly in Waveney's half. Second half saw Josh B starting up front making some fantastic runs and passes. Josh S played some brilliant balls, linking with Dan, using one-twos and moving the ball upfield. Dan controlled the centre of the pitch, laying the ball off to Callum who sent the ball into the box time and again. Matty came back on and showed fantastic determination getting into space. Waveney's defence seemed unbreakable at this point but Dan pushed the ball out to Callum who crossed into the box, and after a scramble Matty poached a goal. Waveney broke quickly from another Rangers attack, forcing Michael to make a fantastic save. Overall, both teams played a good spirited game. Final score 1-0 Goal scorer, Matty. GORLESTON RANGERS U11A played against Loddon Grasshoppers in the semi-finals of the Shield. Both sides played some excellent football and it was a real shame that there had to be a loser. After a close first half the score was 1-1 with the Rangers' goal from a Mitch free-kick from 20 yards into the top corner. The second half was a real ding-dong battle with Loddon leading 3-1 then Rangers pegging them back before taking a 4-3 lead with just a minute to go, all three second half goals coming from a Lewis hat-trick in just four minutes! Then with the last kick of normal time Loddon equalised from a corner. Penalties from the first takers finished 4-4, so on to sudden death and after Ben H and Lewis scored, then Jordan touched the next Loddon penalty on to the post, up stepped Raffi and coolly slotted the winning penalty home. Rangers won 7-6 on penalties, and now have the final against Pakefield B to look forward to. Well done to both sets of players for making it such an outstanding game for the numerous spectators.

GORLESTON RANGERS U8B visited Harleston, and despite some very poor weather conditions, all the boys played with great enthusiasm. From the start the team looked very good going forward, and attacked with lots of pace and supplying plenty of crosses.

Daniel then made his first appearance, and fitted in well, working very hard all over the pitch. In the second half Rangers played some great passing football and continued to defend well. This week's MoM was given to Harrison for running his socks off for the entire game but, all in all, another great display by all the boys.

GORLESTON RANGERS U12 travelled to play a very good St John's team in the Ipswich Open Cup quarter-finals, running out 2-1 winners. Again Rangers had to reshuffle. On a quagmire of a pitch the standard of play from both sides first class. In the first half strikers George and Isaac caused St John's defence plenty of problems with their pace. St John's passed the ball very well and their two wingers were threatening. Charlie again marshalled Rangers' defence superbly, ably backed by Ryan, Liam and Mikey W. The midfield of Adam, Sam, Mikey P, Jack and Alfie worked tirelessly and kept good shape. George out-paced the St John's defence and scored a good opportunist goal for 1-0 at half-time. In the second half St John's pressed Rangers back. They stood firm and defended as well as they have done all season. St John's equalised after earlier chances were blocked. For the rest of the game play ebbed and flowed. Rangers took the lead when Isaac blocked a defender's attempted clearance and it rebounded into the net. Rangers weren't really seriously troubled again. Man-of-the-match: Max, who just edged Charlie, Jack, Mikey P and George in the best performance of the season against classy opponents. GORLESTON RANGERS U9A played a very sporting Gorleston FC B team, eventually running out comfortable 3-0 winners. Rangers' recent good run continued, although they didn't pass the ball around as well as they have in previous weeks. A combination of hurried finishing and good goalkeeping from the Gorleston No 1 kept the score down. Credit to both sides for keeping going as the weather deteriorated rapidly in the second half. Special thanks to Joe and Bailey for going in goal in Finlay's absence. Hopefully Rangers can keep their recent improvement going. Man-of-the-match: Jack, who capped a fine performance with three goals. Next game: Waveney Youths A (kick-off 11.45am) at Barnards Meadow. Meeting arrangements to be confirmed at training. GREAT YARMOUTH TOWN U10 travelled to a snow-bound Gorleston FC B for a derby. The game was played at a fast pace by both teams but was largely dominated by a young Bloaters side, Yarmouth unluckily found themselves trailing 1-0 at half-time through a free-kick. The second half was an awesome display from the young Bloaters, showing bite, skill, passing, and shooting which was great to watch. Yarmouth soon levelled when Hunter's pin-point free-kick found Aizlewood to nod home. Yarmouth's Hunter thundered home a long-range effort, Yarmouth were then harshly reduced to six men just before Gorleston missed from the spot, which spurred the young Bloaters on even more and they completed the scoring with a good move and finish from Sawyer. Yarmouth could easily added to the score line near the end but were stopped by the woodwork and keeper. Great Performance by every player, J Swanston, K Haylock, A Sawyer, C Aizlewood, B Jex, J Rodwell, T Hunter, O Wright, T Sims. MoM: Whole team.

GREAT YARMOUTH TOWN U10 continued their quest for the treble when they hosted rivals Gorleston Rangers A in the quarter-finals of the Ipswich & Suffolk Open Cup. In a game where each side cancelled each other out, chances were few at either end, Yarmouth certainly didn't play the football they were capable of and let themselves down in some departments. Rangers A were hassling the Bloaters and probably edged the game over the 40 minutes. However, Wright could have won it for the Bloaters when he hit the crossbar near the end and Swanston playing great in goal throughout. Yarmouth's formation had to change in the second half when Sawyer went off injured. The game ended in a goalless draw and went to the penalties. Yarmouth progressed to the semi-finals with a 4-3 shoot-out victory. Scorers: Wallis, Rodwell, Sims and Swanston. Yarmouth welcomed back Wallis in a full-strength line up of Swanston, Haylock, Sawyer, Aizlewood, Rodwell, Wallis, Hunter, Sims, Jex, Wright. HEMSBY HORNETS U7B visited a sporting Waveney D in terrible conditions and played some excellent football.

Well done to man-of-the-match Jack and Sammy for some fine finishing and hard-working displays by Innes and Rex. Well done to all the boys for battling on through the bitter weather, and thanks to all the parents for their continued support. Next match home to Martham.

HEMSBY HORNETS U10B played away to top of the league St Benets and came home with a superb 3-1 win. In terrible weather conditions and with only seven players available, the Hornets produced an unbelievable performance. From the whistle they battled for every ball, defended in numbers and attacked as a team and they deserved everything they got. Spirits were certainly up and Hornets showed that, no matter what is thrown at them they come back stronger. Harlen in goal was superb, Cain and Luke defending never missed a tackle and the midfield of Connor, Louis, Kristian and Jack worked like Trojans, and with no subs available no-one had a chance for a breather. Goal scorers were Louis and Connor. MoM was awarded to the whole seven. Many thanks to Steve and all the parents who faced terrible weather conditions as it seems this was the only game played in the division and the boys not once moaned of being cold and wet.

ORMESBY LADS U10: Harleston were the visitors to Station Road in the cold, wet, miserable conditions which made it difficult for the teams to play at their best. Both teams had early half-chances with Ben and Carter going close for Ormesby. Harleston took the lead when a shot came back off the post and was tapped in. Jamie and Carter succumed to the weather and were replaced by Jordan and Brandon who both tried hard to get Ormesby back in the game. Then Harleston scored again and for a time looked as if they would add more, but thanks to Andrew they were kept at bay. In the second half Carter came back on and started to pressure the Harleston defence. Sam was one player who seemed untroubled by the miserable weather as he fought hard in midfield, as did Victoria, who played really well. Kai made a fantastic block and Antonio handled the slippery ball well as Ormesby finished strongly but, not for the first time, were beaten by a team who coped better with the cold and wet weather conditions. Player of the Match was Victoria who did not let the weather “cramp her style”, boys take note! No game this week.

BLUNDESTON MAGPIES U11 enteretained Kirkley and Pakefield U11B in the Shield semi-finals. The players made light of the tricky conditions to put on an entertaining match which ended in a narrow victory for the visitors. Much of the early play was in midfield but midway through the half Magpies took the lead when James fired into the left corner of the net from Matthew's pass. Patrick and Logan linked up to produce another shot that was saved moments later. Following a sustained period of Kirkley pressure down their right, there was just time for another great run from Logan before half-time. The second half started with a very quick Kirkley equaliser and the Magpies were largely penned back in their own half, a second goal coming when the ball eluded everyone straight through the middle to an on-rushing forward. The third goal effectively ended the tie from close range on the left. Magpies enjoyed a period of pressure towards the end, Alex and Logan having shots goal before man-of-the-match James pulled a goal back, firing in from close range from a brilliant cross from Matthew in the dying seconds.

SHRUBLANDS U13 played away in the quarter-finals of the NSYL Cup at Burnt Hill on Sunday on a boggy pitch with their two main strikers unavailable. The first half was a battle against the elements and at half-time the score was 1-1. With the right words said they stepped up through the gears and ended convincing 7-3 winners with the goals coming from Jackson (2), Connor (2), Coby (2) and an own goal. Norfolk and Suffolk Roofing MoM went to Connor who ran himself into the very wet ground for the team. No game this Sunday, but see you all at the Shrublands RetroSkate party.
