The first FITC Pink 'Un Masters seven-a-side tournament took place at Norwich City FC FITC's Carrow Park last night with five top local teams battling it out.

Great Yarmouth Town were crowned the first FITC Pink-Un Masters 7-a-Side Champions at Norwich City FC Football in the Community Carrow Park facility on Tuesday 3rd April.

The tournament was organised for players 35 or over with Wroxham, Watton, Gorleston, Norwich Utd and the overall winners Great Yarmouth Town taking part.

Yarmouth ran out inaugural champions in the final after the round robin stages with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Watton.

FITC and The Pink Un recently sent out an appeal for all local legends to come forward and pull on their boots again to represent the club. The evening was not only about the players of old, the managers also agreed to play their part and took charge of the teams for the tournament.

Bruce Cunningham put on his bench coat to take charge of Wroxham with the likes of Mark Crowe, Adrian Harris, Stuart Larter donning the blue jersey again. Paul Chick and Donny Pye led Norwich Utd with players Tim Sayer, Perry Cornfield, Paul Grady and Darren Gill. Club Chairman Jimmy Jones and Gary Skeggs with Steve King again wearing the captain's armband jointly managed Gorleston. Andy Campbell managed Watton Utd with players like George Wilson, Micky Patterson and Mark Bond playing for their Masters select side.

Ian Thornton FITC Director and Tournament organiser said: “The evening proved to be a real success. We have maximised the facilities at Carrow Park to bring together some of Norfolk's most talented footballers of years gone by. It was quite clear all the players enjoyed seeing each other again. The football was to a good standard but the stories and banter through-out the night was probably the highlight for many''

Nick Banham - Great Yarmouth Town Goal-Keeper for the night said: “The night was thoroughly enjoyable evening that was very well organized. It was interesting to hear some of the old stories being told most of which cannot be repeated! It was great to catch up with some of the former players from Yarmouth and other clubs. Even though some had never met the atmosphere amongst them looked as if they had always been together. The icing on the cake was winning the tournament”

The word on the night was the players would love to take part again next year, giving them plenty of time to recover! Great Yarmouth will now receive their trophy at Carrow Road during the half-time presentation in the match between Norwich City and Ipswich Town.

Charlie Papworth - Marketing Manger for the Evening News and Pink Un said: It was great to be able to put on this night with the FITC team and I am delighted that all the players had a good time. I was very impressed with the standard of play and think that some of the younger players in the county could learn a few tricks from these Masters!
