City's Academy side completed the double over Ipswich Town with a comfortable 2-0 victory at Playford Road this morning.

Both Canary goals came in the second half and from central defenders Alvin Quaye and Michael Spillane.

David Williams named a strong line-up, one that is likely to start when the Canaries travel to St James Park on Wednesday to play Newcastle United in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup.

City keeper Steve Arnold was quickly called into action when he saved a curling free-kick.

Town had their goalkeeper Andrew Plummer to thank when his outstretched leg blocked a shot from Damon Lathrope.

Arnold made a comfortable save to deny Edward Upson but moments later the Canaries keeper needed the help of defender Quaye who cleared the loose ball after Arnold could only block a header from Jack Ainsley.

Williams altered his formation after the break dropping Chris Martin back into a five-man midfield leaving Renton as the lone striker.

With 62 minutes on the clock City scored as Spillane was on hand at the far post to head the ball back into the danger where QUAYE headed the ball home from close range.

Town keeper Plummer did well to turn a Lathrope shot round for a corner but from this City extended their lead with SPILLANE getting his head to the ball at the far post.

Ipswich could find no way back into the game and City looked more likely to score with Plummer making two fine saves to deny Martin.
