Stephens, 18, signed a three-year deal with Hibs, having spent the latter stages of last season on loan to Chris Sutton's Lincoln City, where he made three starts.
The strapping 6ft 4in defender - who has represented Wales at Under-17 and Under-19 levels - made just one senior appearance for City, when he came on as a sub in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy win at Gillingham in October last year.
