It seems to be the story of the season so far. Great possession, yet not converting that possession into goals.

Up until the Newcastle game, the team as a whole has played well. At the start of the season we came out of the blocks fighting hard to prove that we deserved our place in the Premier League.

The game against Palace might have been a different story if the referee hadn’t disallowed Jerome’s goal. We might have won against Stoke instead of drawing if Jack Butland hadn’t had an outstanding game. But we cannot go through the whole season saying ‘what if’.

I heard a fan commenting during the West Brom match that Norwich were like the old Arsenal team who were content to ‘pass the ball into the net’. Looking back on the match, I think he was right, apart from getting the ball into the net. We completed 373 passes during the game with only three shots on target - the statistics speak for themselves on this occasion.

On Saturday, the fans seemed to be in a rather negative mood. The Barclay was strangely quiet during big chunks of the game. At full-time the ground rang with the sound of boos. Yes, we are all frustrated with some of the results. Losing the lead so late in the match away to West Ham, not being able to break the West Brom defence down, and especially the 6-2 hammering suffered at St James’ Park, but that doesn’t warrant booing.

I am a firm believer in getting behind your players and shouting encouragement when things maybe don’t quite go our way. The next two months aren’t going to be easy, with matches against Man City, Chelsea, Man Utd and Spurs away and Arsenal at home, so we need the fans to get behind the team.

Going into the match on Tuesday night, I felt that things might turn a corner for Norwich and when we went 1-0 up I really thought things were looking up. Although we had lots of shots on goal, Everton managed an equaliser and the game eventually ended up in that awful lottery - the penalty shoot-out. How I hate them. Apparently it makes the game more exciting, I, however, would prefer a replay. After disappointing penalty kicks by Hoolahan and Redmond, we have exited the cup. Even more sad considering that our two cup triumphs have been in this competition.

So back to the league, I can now roll out the old cliché ‘well we can concentrate on the league now’.

I am quite sure that Alex Neil will turn things around. Norwich have some fantastic players, and with one or two key buys in January to strengthen the defence, a mid-table finish will be ready for the taking.
